Making the Wedding More Memorable for the Groom

Much of the wedding plans have traditionally been focused on the bride and her family. While this is still true, modern grooms are getting more involved in selecting wedding colors, venues, reception sites, music and food. Fortunately, this new interest alleviates much of the pressure and stress for the bride. Likewise, she is going to make sure the wedding day is as memorable as possible for her new husband-to-be.

In the past, many brides and grooms assumed that the ceremony performed would be based on the religious beliefs of the bride’s family. Now it is possible to incorporate elements of both faiths (should they be different) into your wedding. Many web sites advertise officiants who specialize in interfaith weddings. By honoring some of the religious traditions of his family, it will make a lasting impression about your commitment to your new husband.

If the groom has children from a previous marriage, it would make his day more special if they were involved in the ceremony. Depending on the ages of the children, they could be a flower girl/ring bearer, read poetry or psalms, deliver a reading, perform music, or present the “gifts” as part of a religious ceremony.

The reception at the music should reflect some of his favorite songs that are appropriate to the occasion. The centerpieces, favors, and even the cake can be decorated to reflect a particular interest or hobby that he enjoys. Imagine his surprise, when he goes to remove your garter, and sees it decorated with his favorite sports team!

Make sure the groom’s family is well represented in the wedding program, pictures, and toasts at the reception. If your relationship with your new in-laws needs work, this is the time to lay the framework for a new, solid relationship. He will love you for it!
